De Markbrug Breda in the year 1959 | The history of Sprangers Bouwbedrijf B.V.
In 1796 the 24-year old Lambertus Sprangers settles as a carpenter in Princenhage. He originated from Meerle. As a newcomer in Princenhage he is quite successful. In 1804 he moves to a more stately premises, located at the market of Princenhage. In the first couple of years the company mainly carries out small maintenance jobs.
Around 1990 Rudolf Sprangers, the youngest family member of the 5th generation and only Sprangers descendant that is still part of the shareholders who is linked to the construction company, takes a unique decision. He took his property in Sprangers Bouwbedrijf and put it into a foundation, Sprangers Jeugdfonds, with a dual objective. Firstly to ensure the continuity and the independence of the construction company and secondly provide financial support to sustainable development aid for children with lesser opportunities worldwide. Both aims are inextricably connected. When the Sprangers Bedrijven are doing well the foundation receives dividend from the companies which is used to fulfil the social objective.
In 2002 Sprangers Jeugdfonds decided to establish a second foundation with the objective to execute the social goals of the first. This foundation, the Marthe van Rijswijck Foundation, carries the name of the spouse of Hubertus Sprangers. The interesting story of this foundation can be accessed via the link below.
